A brief report on the Canada Winter Games:

It was a golden day for Catherine Thwaites (Victoria) and Silvia Incrocci (Kelowna) in the Women's Team Pistol event. Not only did the girls combine to win the gold medal but they also set a Canada Games record. Catherine Thwaites (Victoria) left her last shot to the final 6 seconds of the event putting her spectating supporters on the edge of their seats but neither of them left many shots for the Lost Shot Fairy. TSN quickly requested an interview with the champions who handled their gold medal roles admirably although they may be drifting off to sleep tonight to 'You're watching the 2007 Canada Winter Games on TSN', running through their heads.

The team BC arrived in Whitehorse early in the morning. We had to sort our luggage out and packed everything to our rooms. Sunday morning, the team took their air pistols and rifles to the venue, and checked them in. After that, we went to the team prep rally, saw Gordon Campbell, and heard some inspiring words of encouragement.  The opening ceremonies were lots of fun even though I could not see anything.

On Monday, we went to the gun check, which went very smoothly. Then in the afternoon, we had our first practice. The range was in a school gym that had very good lighting conditions. After the team had packed all of the gear and was all prepared for the following day’s competition, we went back to the athlete’s village for dinner.

Tuesday was my first shooting competition. It was the team event and I was paired up with Silvia Incrocci from Kelowna . We both had a good shot, which placed us for gold medal and broke the former match record. Unfortunately, Tyler Johnson and his teammate Curtis Hampton did not place in the medal standings. Wednesday went very well for the Air Rifle team. The women placed bronzed and the men placed with a gold medal .

On Thursday, it was my second match and I went into it very positive. It went very well, my Mental Coach, Dave Freeze helped me through some very hard shoots.  After a long hour and fifteen minutes, my match was done and I had a score of 364 out of 400. I went into the finals in first place and was ahead by six points. I ended the finals with a gold medal.

Whitehorse was an interesting experience, due to the cold of -42 degrees and listening to the other athletes’ stories in the athlete village. The team spent most of the time playing cards and exploring the town. I would recommend going up to Whitehorse for a week and explore the cold and the scenery because it is just that beautiful.
